The power of Mary’s story is not that she was a unique, once-in-a-lifetime, haloed piece of renaissance art adored by all who was qualified to bear the divine Son of God. What makes her story powerful is that God saw Mary as a priceless work of art when everyone else just saw a barefoot, redneck teenage girl living in a Nazarene trailer park. God conceived Christ in Mary because God saw her and loved her as she was for who she was. She found favor with God even though she found favor with no one else.
The power of your story is God sees you as a priceless work of art. God breathed life into you. God filled you with the divine Spirit. And God is bringing beauty into the world through you.
May this holiday season remind you that Christ is being formed in you. Right now. And the one who began this good work in you will be faithful to complete it.
