Second Sermon in a Summer Series
June 20, 2015
Of the many disturbing stories that you find in the pages of the Bible, one of the most gut-wrenching has to be the story of Abraham being asked by God to sacrifice his son Isaac. Abraham waits longer than most of us live today to finally get his first son from his true love, Sarah. Then, God asks him to take Isaac up to a mountain and slaughter his son.
If you’re familiar with the story, you know that God steps in at the last second and stops Abraham and provides a sheep to sacrifice instead. But the question remains, why would God ask Abraham to do such a thing, even if God knew that he wasn’t going to ultimately require him to kill his own son?
